We are sharing a book Hazel is really enjoying this month as part of the Parragon Book Buddies Program, The Find It Book by Margaret Wise Brown and illustrated by Lisa Sheehan. This beautiful book is the latest by Margaret Wise Brown who also wrote Goodnight Moon, The Runaway Bunny, and All the Little Fathers. In this book the reader is asked to find various things from famous nursery rhymes in the beautiful illustrations. Lisa Sheehan is up for the AOI World Illustrations Award for her illustrations in this book. (Source)

This book combines several of Hazel's favorite things. She loves looking for things and nursery rhymes. Plus the words are easy enough for her to read. As we explored the book more and more we also discovered other things. One can find things from the other nursery rhymes or sayings in the book on most of the pages and almost always the next story is on the previous page. Hazel had not heard all the rhymes used in the book, so I put together a two-page printable of them so she could read them whenever she wanted. Feel free to print it out for your own personal use. I just found them on-line (Wikipedia mostly). The famous rhymes and sayings are The Owl and the Pussycat, Five Little Monkeys, Jack Sprat, Little Bo Peep, This Little Piggy, There Was a Crooked Man, Hey Diddle Diddle, Humpty Dumpty, Hickory Dickory Dock, Itsy Bitsy Spider, Georgie Porgie, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, "A stitch in time saves nine," "A wolf in sheep's clothing," "Man in the moon," and "You can't have your cake and eat it too." I linked them to the sources I used on my printable and most of them provide a little background for anyone interested.

Hazel's favorite thing to do with the book now is look for the various characters on each page. We try to find all of the characters or symbols from each story on each page. I love that it is a simple find it book for younger kids that can be extended for older kids. It is such a fun book and we highly recommend it. It is among Hazel's favorites!!
